-30% of our children drop out of school by the 10th grade.
-Only 32% of our high school graduates will go to technical college even though 65% of our jobs require such training.
-28% of high school graduates will go on to a 4-year university and find that only 20% of our jobs require such degrees.
-The rest of our high school graduates will flood the job market fighting for the 15% of our jobs characterized as unskilled.
Now you know why finding well trained, technically skilled workers is difficult. The SC Education & Economic Development Act (S.462/H714) addresses the above problems. This comprehensive legislation will dramatically reduce our dropout rate and will create a seamless transition from K-12 to employment or further training and education.
The Small Business Chamber is supporting the SC Education & Economic Development Act as a key workforce development effort.
Please contact the members of the Senate Education Subcommittee, which will take up the SC Education & Economic Development Act this Wednesday the 23rd at 10 a.m. Tell them that you support S.462 and would appreciate them voting “yes” on the bill.
