City of Greenville passes resolution opposing offshore drilling and exploration for oil

Big news from South Carolina. The City of Greenville sits 213 miles from Charleston and 248 miles from Myrtle Beach.  But that doesn’t mean that its city council doesn’t care about the economic and environmental health of the state’s coast.

Last night the Greenville City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing offshore exploration and drilling for oil.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Greenville, South Carolina, City Council finds that offshore oil and gas drilling and exploration unnecessarily risks our economic and ecological health and, therefore, City Council opposes any plan or legislation which encourages oil and gas development or exploration offshore that would negatively impact the citizens of South Carolina. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.

Our thanks to Greenville City Council and all the individuals and organizations that worked so hard to make this vote a reality.
