FOIA Requests Regarding Seismic Testing Permits

FOIA Request to Department of Defense 4-9-18:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. The South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce is requesting copies of all reports and records containing the following information on munition deposits (conventional, chemical and radioactive) in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States.  Some of this information is contained in the 2009 Defense Environmental Programs Annual Report to Congress.  However, that report does not include all the information requested and, according to that report, the Defense Department indicates that it planned to continue its research and update the information.

  1. Specific locations (latitude and longitude) of the munition deposits (conventional, chemical and radioactive) in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States,
  2. Types of munitions and gross tonnage of each deposited in each of the locations identified in #1.
  3. Specific or approximate dates when munition deposits were made in each of the locations identified in #1.
  4. Research reports on the hazards to the environment from munition deposits (conventional, chemical and radioactive) in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States.

To help to determine our status to assess fees, the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce is a 501c6 non-profit organization. The information being requested is not intended for commercial interest.  The purpose of the request is to provide information to help develop mitigation strategies to protect the marine environment and Atlantic Coast economies if permits by federal agencies are issued for the conducting of seismic surveys along the East Coast to explore for oil and gas deposits beneath the ocean floor.

FOIA Request to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission 4-9-18

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. The South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce is requesting copies of all reports or records containing the following information on the Atomic Energy Commission (1947-1974) approved licenses of commercial entities to dispose radioactive waste in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States.

  1. Dates of each Atomic Energy Commission’s licensing of private sector disposal of radioactive waste in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States.
  2. Volume (weight or gallons) of radioactive waste approved by the Atomic Energy Commission in each license for disposal identified in #1.
  3. Specific locations (latitude and longitude) of the Atomic Energy Commission approved deposit identified in #1.
  4. Research reports on the hazards to the environment from radioactive waste approved by the Atomic Energy Commission for deposit in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States.

  1. Specific locations (latitude and longitude) of the private industry toxic material deposits in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States,
  2. Types of toxic materials and weight of each deposited in each of the locations identified in #1.
  3. Specific or approximate dates when toxic material deposits were made in each of the locations identified in #1.
  4. Research reports on the hazards to the environment from private industry toxic material deposits in the state and federal waters along the East Coast of the United States.
