Legislature Back in Session

The South Carolina General Assembly returned to the State House on Tuesday to begin the second year of a two-year session.

The current South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce (SCSBCC) state legislative agenda includes bills on health
insurance, workers’ compensation, solar energy, recycling, community safety as well as support for the budget requests of the S.C. Small Business Development Center, S.C. Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the S.C. Primary Health Care Association.

The bill on health insurance addresses the need to create more competition to keep healthcare costs down. Read more about this here and learn how you can help.

We expect to be adding to our legislative agenda as new bills are introduced.

Rally for Homeownership

The South Carolina Home Builders Association (HBA) is holding a rally at the State Capital tomorrow (1/12/12) at12:30PM in support of keeping the home mortgage interest tax deduction. Some in Washington have raised the idea of ending this important tax deduction that has enabled generations of Americans to own their own homes. Making affordable financing options and access to loans for homeownership is also the message of the rally.

The SCSBCC will join the HBA rally. The housing construction industry is an important small business sector of our economy. While the economy is starting to grow, it would accelerate faster if we can revive the housing construction industry. According to the National Association of Home Builders constructing 100 new homes creates more than 300 full-time jobs, $23.1 million in wage and business income and $8.9 million in federal, state and local tax revenue.

Join us at the rally tomorrow, sign the HBA petition and get a free box lunch. Visit http://www.rallyforhomeownership.com/ for more information.
