Statement by Frank Knapp Jr., President & CEO, South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling on King v. Burwell is  great victory for small businesses in South Carolina and across the nation.  Affordable health insurance has been a top issue for small businesses since the 90’s.  The Affordable Care Act addressed the problem by making health insurance affordable to individuals through premium subsidies and small businesses through tax credits.  As a result our small businesses have healthier employees and workers are less stressed about the financial consequences of needing healthcare without having insurance.  In addition, by having fewer uninsured there is less of a hidden tax on every health insurance premium to take care of the uncompensated care of the uninsured thus keeping premium increases under better control.  The Supreme Court decision today preserves the momentum for affordable health insurance that benefits employees and small business owners alike.”
