Addresses criticism of NextEra proposal

Columbia, SC—The SC House Santee Cooper Ad Hoc Committee held a public hearing yesterday.  Among those testifying was the president/CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Frank Knapp Jr.

Mr. Knapp told the committee that the NextEra proposal to buy Santee Cooper, the state’s financially distressed utility, met all the goals the Small Business Chamber had set over a year ago for a sale.

Mr. Knapp also addressed criticisms of the NextEra proposal especially the unfounded accusation that the proposals is the Base Load Review Act 2.0.  The Small Business Chamber’s knowledge of the problems with that law goes back to 2015 and the organization co-founded the Stop The Blank Check Coalition in 2016 to propose amendments to that law to prevent a future financial debacle like the one that was gripping SCE&G at the time.

Mr. Knapp’s presentation can be viewed here.
