Below is the statement of Frank Knapp Jr., President and CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce, in response to President Trump’s recent actions on health insurance.

“We are witnessing the historic disintegration of this country’s traditional private health insurance system. Senator Bernie Sanders must be very pleased because President Trump’s recent executive orders will lead to the total collapse of our private health insurance system. We will enter a Republican health insurance era that has no rules and no protection for the consumer. The chaos, fraud, higher premiums and junk insurance policies that will develop will dramatically improve the odds on a Medicare for All system becoming a reality. Congress has the ability to step in to prevent all of this but simply taking steps to temporarily stabilize the health insurance marketplace isn’t enough. Congress also needs to address escalating healthcare costs that are driving the increases in insurance premiums.”
