URGE THE SENATE TO ACT TO PROTECT VOTING RIGHTS!

The Senate is scheduled to vote Wednesday (11/3) on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (John Lewis VRAA), which would restore voting protections in the 1965 Voting Rights Act that have been eroded by the Supreme Court.  Now, more than ever, it is vital to urge passage of this important voting rights measure.

Last week, Senate Republicans used the filibuster rule to block consideration of the Freedom to Vote Act, to ease access to the ballot and assure fair counting of those ballots in federal elections.  It is expected the filibuster rule will be invoked again to block even just a debate on the John Lewis bill.

URGE THE SENATE TO ACT TO PROTECT VOTING RIGHTS!

The American Sustainable Business Council and South Carolina Small Business Chamber know our economy depends on democracy and the principles of fairness, equity, and universal access. But dozens of states have passed legislation this year that will make it harder to cast a ballot and raise doubts about the fairness of vote counts. That’s why we support and advocate for the Senate to pass the John Lewis and Freedom to Vote acts.  But with another filibuster expected to block even consideration of these bills, we also support reforming the filibuster to allow a simple majority to pass Constitutional questions like voting rights.
