SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza Must be a Strong Voice for Main Street in an Administration that Favors Big Business

Statement by Frank Knapp, Jr., co-chair of Businesses for Responsible Tax Reform and president & CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce, who formerly served on an advisory body to the SBA Office of the National Ombudsman, on todayā€™s appointment of Jovita Carranza as Administrator of the Small Business AdministrationĀ

Washington, D.C., Jan. 7, 2020ā€”We congratulate Jovita Carranza on her appointment today as administrator of the Small Business Administration and are eager to work with her to empower Main Street entrepreneurs to create jobs and boost our economy.

We hope Administrator Carranza will be a strong voice for entrepreneurs in an administration that has strongly favored large corporations over the needs of small businesses, as evidenced by the Trump tax law. Businesses for Responsible Tax Reformā€™sĀ pollingĀ shows the tax law did little to help small businesses: 74% of small business owners said they were not able to hire new employees due to the law, 66% said they were not able to give raises, 64% said they were not able to pay off loans and 67% said they were not able to invest in equipment or construction.

Itā€™s time that small businesses, which employ half the country and create most new jobs, get their due, and we would welcome an opportunity to discuss small business priorities with the new administrator.

Small business owners invest in their communities and entrepreneurship results in more jobs, healthy neighborhoods, and a brighter future. Itā€™s time this administration support small businesses and our communities by providing entrepreneurs with the tools they need to grow and thrive.
