Thad Moore of the Charleston Post and Courier reports that the U.S. Census Bureau conducted a just-released survey in 2014 that shows some interesting findings about small business entrepreneurship in South Carolina.
According to Mr. Moore:
-Nearly 1 in 12 South Carolina companies didn’t exist even a few years ago.
-About 8 percent of firms in the Palmetto State hadn’t yet celebrated their second birthday.
-Minority-owned companies account for a relatively small portion of the state’s businesses (12 percent), but a larger part of its new companies (20 percent).
-Women own just 18 percent of firms in the state, but make up a bigger share of startups (21 percent).
-Veterans are responsible for more of South Carolina’s new businesses (8 percent) than the national average (6 percent).
