Seismic testing permits denied by Obama Administration

Washington, DC—The Obama Administration’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today denied all permits for oil exploration off the Atlantic Coast. The Business Alliance for Protecting the Atlantic Coast (BAPAC) expressed its appreciation to the Administration for listening to the overwhelming coastal opposition to seismic testing from businesses, local government, residents and conservation groups.

“Seismic testing is a dangerous, old technology that would dramatically harm our marine life and thus threatening our local tourism and commercial fishing economies,” said Frank Knapp, co-founder of BAPAC with its over 130,000 business and 500,000 commercial fishing families supporters. “This important decision will buy us time to educate the next Administration about the Atlantic Coast business community overwhelming opposition to offshore drilling.”
