November 8, 2021 –The South Carolina Primary Health Care Association (SCPHCA) received a Navigator Grant Award as a part of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) largest ever funding allocation to provide health insurance enrollment assistance to consumers in the 30 states with a federally facilitated marketplace. The 2021 Navigator awards are for a 12-month budget period with a 36-month period of performance running through August 26, 2024. A list of all 2021 Navigator grant recipients can be found here.
Upon receipt of the award, the SCPHCA launched the SCPHCA Navigator Program that provides free health insurance enrollment assistance across South Carolina. The Program consists of 16 Navigators at located at community health centers (CHCs) across the state that help with Medicaid/CHIP enrollments, Qualified Health Plan selection or general inquiries, with a focus on underserved populations, by providing services that are linguistically or culturally competent.
In partnership with the SCPHCA, the SC Small Business Chamber of Commerce will be providing targeted outreach and educational activities aimed at reaching small business owners and their employees to ensure that working individuals without health coverage are offered assistance and understand the options available to them.
