Nikki Haley’s hero Joan Jett…Big oops

In May of this year South Carolina Republican Governor Nikki Haley had lunch with one of her all-time heroes, rocker Joan Jett.

The story in The State reported what Haley had said about her hero back in 2011:

“When I am going through the toughest times, I’ll blast her music. She was one of the first female rockers when female rockers weren’t accepted. When no one would sign her, she created her own label. And when she accomplished everything she walked away! I mean, how cool is that?”

Well, I’m not sure what the Governor thinks that Jett walked away from but it certainly wasn’t playing music. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts is the headlining act today at a festival in Austin, Texas.

Something else that Jett didn’t walk away from was politics. An email I received today from MoveOn signed by Jett urges women to vote this coming Tuesday to stop the GOP from taking control of the U.S. Senate.

“Because if you care about women’s rights to control our own bodies and our own paychecks, then you’ve just got to care about this midterm election,” Jett pleads. “I’m here to tell you that there are Senate candidates who could win who are against access to birth control, paid family sick leave, and the Violence Against Women Act—and who don’t take seriously the issues of rape and domestic abuse.”

And putting what she is known for to good use, Jett produced a music video just for the people who take up her call to action and invites them to dance around their room to the video.

Watch the video and see if you can picture Haley dancing around the Governor’s mansion in support of her hero’s political statement. Maybe even Michael will join in.

Oh, and aren’t you interested in exactly what Haley and Jett talked about over lunch. Joan, call me and let’s talk.
