The latest report indicates that over 180,000 South Carolinians have enrolled in health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. That is a giant increase over the last open enrollment period.
Most of these folks are qualifying for the premium assistance (advanced tax credits) that make these high quality policies affordable. Also, all of these enrollees will avoid a penalty fee of at least $325 at tax time next year for not having coverage mandated by law.
Time is running out for individuals to obtain health insurance through the Marketplace. The open enrollment period ends this Sunday at midnight.
If you don’t have health insurance or have not qualified for an exemption, you still have time. Go online to HealthCare.gov and get enrolled or get an exemption.
