Should the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management approve of seismic airgun blasting in the Atlantic, the Business Alliance for Protecting the Atlantic Coast (BAPAC) is ready to go to court to stop the destructive process that is the first step to offshore oil drilling. The South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce is a founding organization of BAPAC.
Our pro bono legal services will come from the South Carolina Environmental Law Project (SCELP), who has previously fought state permits granted to three of the companies who would blast our ocean and already assisted BAPAC in the early skirmishes with the new administration plans for oil & gas development in the Atlantic.
Founded in 1987 on the heels of a community fight against a proposed oil refinery on Winyah Bay, SCELP is a nonprofit organization that relies almost entirely on charitable contributions from businesses, individual supporters and foundations.  SCELP’s Wild Side Fundraiser is coming up on November 4th in Georgetown, SC.
Sponsorship packages are still available.  Please consider supporting the lawyers who are working for us pro bono to oppose seismic blasting and offshore drilling in the Atlantic. Join in the celebration of 30 years of battles and victories for our environment’s and our communities’ health (as currently featured in the social media campaign #30for30).
