Thousands more business owners, sole proprietors, and small business employees now qualify for Health Insurance Subsidies!

Most small business owners make too much money to qualify for a federal subsidy when buying an health insurance plan through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace.  The result has been premiums that were often unaffordable.

The rules changed on March 11th!!

The cap on income level for premium assistance is now gone.

New subsidy amounts go up to incomes of $340,000!!!

Here are the steps to Savings Buckets of $$$ under the new rules:

  1. Meet with an insurance broker quickly regardless if you offer group health insurance or not:
    1. Make sure the broker understands the new ACA rules on qualifying for premium assistance and is willing to quickly do the calculations for you.

  1. If your business offers a group health insurance plan, the broker will review it:
    1. What is the cost to your business for offering the plan?
    2. How much are your employees paying for the plan?
    3. What are the healthcare benefits in the plan?
    4. How can you take advantage of the new ACA rules to reduce the cost of health insurance to both the business and employees

 

  1. If your business doesn’t offer a group health insurance plan:
    1. How much is the business owner paying for health insurance and what are the benefits?
    2. Do all employees have health insurance?
    3. Can the business owner and employees get a better policy at less cost?
    4. Determine Marketplace subsidy eligibility for the business owner and all employees with the new subsidy amounts that can go up to incomes of $340,000!!!
    5. Help employees & owners enroll in coverage & drop the group health plan (if feasible)

The new law will lower premiums for most people who currently have a Marketplace health plan and expands access to financial assistance for tens of thousands and includes the following provisions:

The SEP (special enrollment period) has been extended to August 15 for everyone,

    •  Starting April 1, existing Marketplace consumers will be able to take advantage of these increased savings and lower costs,
    • The SEP (special enrollment period) has been extended to August 15 for everyone,
    • The option for a new $0-premium Silver plan (with low deductibles) for those eligible up to 150% of the federal poverty limit ($19,140 for single household, $39,330 for family of 4)
    • Consumers with incomes greater than 400% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for subsidies for the first time ever if their insurance costs exceed 8.5% of their income
